FAQ

Where is Honey + Cotton located?

H+C is located at Artthaus Studios, a community of artists and makers located in Oakland’s Jingletown neighborhood. When you arrive, please check in with the receptionist at the front desk. Once you’ve registered, the receptionist will direct you to my studio. Walk-ins are not accepted!

I am a one-woman operation, so if you arrive early I may not be able to greet you right away if I am still finishing up with my previous client. If my door is closed, please make yourself comfortable in the lounge down the hall and I’ll be with you as soon as possible!

Do you take walk-ins?

H+C is by appointment only - I do not accept walk-in clients. Click here to see my most up-to-date availability and book your appointment!

Why do you need my credit card to hold my appointment?

I require a credit card to hold your appointment time in case of late cancellations or no-shows. Please review my cancellation policy below for more info!

What is your cancellation policy?

If you cancel within 24 hours of your appointment you will be charged a 50% late cancellation fee. No show/no calls will result in a 100% fee. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, your appointment will be canceled and you will be charged a 100% fee. Repeat offenders will not be allowed to rebook. I reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.

What is the best way to get there?

From Bart: Artthaus is located 1 mile from the Fruitvale Bart station. I recommend taking an Uber or Lyft from the station rather than walking the 20 minutes through the industrial neighborhood.

Driving: Street parking is available in the surrounding neighborhood. Please note that parking in the main lot is NOT open to the public. There are a limited number of 1 hour guest spots available in the main lot, but please do not park in these spots if your appointment is longer than an hour - your car will be towed!

I highly recommend taking an Uber or Lyft!

Do you offer pedicures?

I do not offer pedicure services at this time.

Is gel bad for my nails?

No way! When gel is applied properly and removed with care, it can protect your natural nails for weeks. Most clients find that a high quality gel manicure makes it easier to grow and maintain long, healthy natural nails. I use the highest quality products and gentle removal techniques to ensure the health and safety of your natural nails!

Can I bring friends to my appointment?

I love hosting groups at my studio! I’m a one-woman show in a small space, so it’s important to plan ahead if you’d like to bring friends along to your appointment. Please send me a message for special requests!

Is your space wheelchair accessible?

Artthaus is currently installing an elevator and will be fully accessible soon! In the meantime, if you are not able to use the stairs please send me a message and I would be happy to make accommodations for you on the ground floor with enough notice.

Can I eat or use my phone during my appointment?

It’s important to avoid contamination during your service - dirt, fuzz and oil from the things you touch will negatively impact your manicure’s staying power. Please leave your devices in your bag and waiting until we’re done to eat.

Should I bring in photos of nails I like or other inspiration?

Bringing visual inspiration to your appointment is a great idea! I recommend starting a Pinterest board and collecting images of nails, fabrics, patterns, textures, art or anything else that inspires you - don’t be afraid to think outside the box! You can also check out my Nailspiration board for more ideas.

How do I take care of my fancy new manicure?

After care is an important part of keeping your nails healthy and your manicure looking great! A few things to keep in mind:

  • Moisturizing daily will keep your cuticles smooth and healthy until your next appointment! I recommend using a cuticle balm or oil along with a hand cream before bed every evening. Check out some of the great skin and nail care products I offer at the studio!

  • Soaking in water can also lead to chipping and lifting! Be sure to wear gloves when doing the dishes and avoid soaking your hands in the bath or hot tub.

  • No set of nails in indestructible! Using your nails to pry, scrape, peel, etc. can result in breaking, cracking, and can even lead to infections! Remember: your nails are jewels, NOT tools!

What if my nails need a touch-up between appointments?

I take pride in my work and want you to be as happy with your nails as possible! If you experience any lifting, cracking or chipping within a week of your gel service, send me an email and I’d be happy to schedule you for a quick touch-up appointment.
